Garden timber around Burwell houses
Fences usually go first at the posts and gravel boards, and sheds at the bottom boards where rain splashes back. Gates take the most handling and split at the end grain. We look at all of it at the visit and point out anything rotten before quoting, since paint won't hold on soft wood.
Cleaning comes first. Where it suits the timber we use an anti-fungal wash, with a gentler method on rough-sawn panels, and then leave the wood to dry right through.
Choosing a finish for the garden
Opaque garden paint covers the grain completely, which works on a shed or summerhouse meant to be noticed. On long fence runs a stain is usually more practical, since the timber still shows through and recoating is quick. We paint test patches so you can see colours against your own planting. Our fence painting and spraying page covers when spraying makes sense.
It helps to know which boundaries belong to you. We can only paint your side, or next door's with their agreement.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
We'd book the work for a dry spell between late spring and early autumn, wash and dry the timber, and sheet paving and plants. Shed doors, trims and window frames are done along with the cladding. Gate hinges and latches are masked or removed and loose rust cleaned off, and a long fence is only sprayed where overspray can be fully controlled. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
