Plasterer for Stotfold homes
Lewis, our plasterer, and the master plasterer we work with skim over textured ceilings to leave a smooth surface. The room is cleared or sheeted first, light fittings and smoke alarms come down, and the surface is prepared so the new plaster bonds.
Because our plasterers and decorators work together, the job carries on into painting once the plaster is dry, with one quotation and Belinda coordinating the dates.
Older walls and stubborn cracks
Around 350 homes in the town date from before 1919. Stripping paper in a house that old can reveal loose lath and plaster, and in a Cambridge bedroom with that problem we had the walls skimmed before decorating.
Cracks that return may mean movement or a leak, and we'll say so rather than paint over them. Water marks are sealed with Zinsser stain block first.

How we approach plastering
After skimming, the plaster dries out fully before we touch it. We sand off nibs with a Mirka dust-free sander, apply a thinned mist coat so the emulsion bonds, fill whatever the mist coat shows up and finish with two full coats. Coving, if wanted, goes up after the plaster and before the final coats. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
