Artex ceilings in postwar Biggleswade
Council Tax records split that group into about 1,150 homes from 1945 to 1964 and 1,890 from 1965 to 1982. Many will have had textured ceilings at some point, and the ones that survive have often been painted over several times. Lewis, our plasterer, skims over the texture to leave a smooth surface for paint.
Before he starts, the room is cleared or sheeted, light fittings and smoke alarms come down, and the ceiling is prepared so the new plaster bonds. Our decorators follow on once it's dry. The Artex case study shows the finish.
A plasterer for lath and plaster in the older terraces
Biggleswade also has about 830 pre-1919 properties. Lath and plaster ceilings and walls in those houses can crack, sag or come loose when old paper is stripped. Sometimes careful filling and lining paper is enough, and sometimes a skim is needed. Graham decides at the survey so you don't pay for more plastering than the room requires.
If stripping uncovers worse damage than expected, we show you and agree the cost before any extra work. Our plastering page goes into the wider service.

How we approach plastering
We protect floors and furniture, take down fittings and prepare the surface. Lewis or our master plasterer skims, the plaster dries fully, and then we sand dust-free and mist coat, which shows up small flaws to fill before the finish coats. New coving can be hung after plastering to neaten the wall and ceiling line in a postwar room. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
