What smooth walls mean for your paper
A flat modern wall lets a heavy or patterned paper show at its best, because there are fewer bumps for the light to catch. That doesn't mean skipping preparation. Old paper is stripped, paste residue is washed off, and plasterboard that has never been sealed is sized or primed so the new paper can be moved into position and later removed without tearing the board's paper face.
Where an older wall is cracked or patched, lining paper goes up first. In Milton that is most likely in the handful of pre-1919 cottages or among the 16 listed buildings that Historic England records in the parish.
Wallpaper hanging around Milton's family homes
With 68% of households owning their home, people here often want something that will last a decade or more: a papered chimney breast, a dining room in a William Morris design, or a hallway that takes a bold pattern up the stairs. Our wallpapering service covers all of these, and Simon, our wallpaper specialist, handles the trickier designer and hand-printed papers.
Graham can hold samples up in your room during his visit so you can judge the scale of the pattern before ordering.

How we approach wallpapering
On Milton's plasterboard walls we strip any existing paper, wash off old paste, fill and sand fixings, then size the surface to the paper maker's instructions. We set out the pattern from the main focal wall, hang each drop to a plumb line, and trim neatly around sockets and frames. The full method, products and FAQs are on our wallpapering page.
