Owners keeping a good kitchen
In Fordham, 431 households own outright and 356 have a mortgage. For both, the choice is often between replacing a working kitchen and repainting it. Graham checks the doors at the visit. Timber and MDF take paint well after thorough preparation, while peeling vinyl wraps usually don't, and he'll say so.
Newer kitchens, in homes built since 2000, sometimes get painted too, usually because the owner wants a darker colour than the builder fitted. Our kitchen cabinet painting page covers colours and finishes.
Spraying or brushing
Flat doors in long runs are good candidates for our Graco Ultra cordless airless sprayer, which leaves a smooth, brush-free finish. Panelled or Shaker doors, or a small kitchen, can be quicker to brush and roll. Either way, the surface is degreased, sanded and primed with a Zinsser primer before two top coats. See kitchen respraying for more.
Wooden worktops can be sanded and oiled with Osmo while we're there, and we can redecorate the walls and ceiling too.

How we approach kitchen cabinet painting
Doors and drawer fronts come off and are labelled, and the hardware is removed and stored. Carcasses stay in place and are masked around worktops and appliances. Everything is degreased, sanded with Mirka dust-free sanders and primed, then finished in two coats of a hard-wearing satin or eggshell. You approve the colour on a sample door first. The full method, products and FAQs are on our kitchen cabinet painting page.
