A sound kitchen, a new colour
In the 2021 Census, 31.6% of Soham households had a mortgage and 28.9% owned outright. Either way, a kitchen that works but looks dated is a good candidate for painting. Graham checks the door material at the visit, since painted timber, solid wood and MDF all take paint when prepared properly.
Homes built since 2000 are often too new to justify a refit, but owners sometimes want to move away from the colour the kitchen came in. The process is the same.
Preparation decides the result
Every door is degreased, with most attention around the hob and handles, then sanded with Mirka dust-free sanders and primed with Zinsser. Chips are filled and worktops, tiles and appliances masked. For long runs of flat doors, our Graco Ultra cordless airless sprayer gives a brush-free finish, while smaller kitchens are often quicker by hand.
Wooden worktops can be oiled with Osmo in the same visit. Our page on painting kitchen units covers finishes and colours in more depth.

How we approach kitchen cabinet painting
Doors are labelled, hinges and handles removed, and each surface cleaned of grease before sanding. We prime with a Zinsser product chosen for the substrate and apply two coats of a durable woodwork eggshell or satin from Tikkurila, Farrow & Ball or Dulux. Test patches on a door help you settle the colour. The full method, products and FAQs are on our kitchen cabinet painting page.
