Why so many Ely kitchens are worth keeping
A kitchen from the late 1990s or 2000s usually has sound carcasses and doors that hang straight. What dates it is the colour, or a lacquer that has gone yellow by the hob. With nearly 30% of Ely households paying off a mortgage, repainting a sound kitchen is often a more sensible project than a full refit.
Painted timber, solid wood and MDF doors all take paint well with the right primer. If your door finish is unlikely to hold paint, Graham will tell you at the visit, before anything is booked.
Spraying, brushing and timber worktops
On long runs of flat slab doors, our Graco Ultra cordless handheld sprayer lays an even coat with no brush marks. Shaker-style doors in a smaller kitchen often look better brushed. Wooden worktops can be sanded and finished in Osmo oil at the same time, as we did at the Old Telephone Exchange in Fulbourn.

How we approach kitchen cabinet painting
Doors come off, get numbered and are degreased thoroughly, with extra attention around the hob and bin. We sand with Mirka dust-free sanders, fill chips, then prime with a Zinsser primer chosen for the surface. Two coats of a durable eggshell or satin follow, sprayed or brushed. Worktops, appliances and floors are masked first, and the sink stays usable where possible. The full method, products and FAQs are on our kitchen cabinet painting page.
