What Ely's housing means for the walls
Council Tax records date 38% of Ely's homes to 2000 or later, and the middle of the range sits in the 1990s. Walls in houses of that age are usually sound plaster, so most of our time goes on filling the hairline cracks that open along ceiling joins and around door frames, then sanding them flush with Mirka dust-free sanders.
Older properties are fewer but they are there: about 12% of the city's homes predate 1919. Those rooms tend to need more preparation, and where the plaster is tired we line the walls before painting. Our wallpaper hanging team can put up the lining and any finish paper in the same visit.
Landlords, flats and end-of-tenancy refreshes
Around 1,800 Ely households rented privately at the last census, and 13.6% of all homes were flats. Between tenancies we make good fixings and scuffs, stain-block any water marks with Zinsser, and usually suggest Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion because it wipes clean and touches up without a patchy halo.
For owners the job is often bigger: a whole floor redecorated, or tired woodwork brought back to a crisp eggshell. Graham Burrell in Ely reviewed us after a bedroom job, and you can read what other customers say on our reviews page.

How we approach interior decorating
For a typical 1990s or 2000s Ely house we start by protecting floors and furniture, then fill and sand every crack and nail hole before priming the repairs. Ceilings go first, walls second, woodwork last in satin or eggshell. In older rooms we test the plaster, line where it's weak, and paint tester pots in several places before you choose a colour. The full method, products and FAQs are on our interior decorating page.
