Owners, landlords and recent buyers
In Littleport, more households own with a mortgage (34%) than own outright (28%). Many people decorate soon after moving in, and Graham can suggest a scheme or work from one you've already chosen.
Renting is also common, with about 36% of households renting from a private or social landlord. For end-of-tenancy work we fill fixings, stain-block marks with Zinsser and use a washable matt that can be touched up when the next tenant leaves.
Interior decorating over settling cracks and older plaster
With around 38% of properties built since 2000, many interior jobs here start with fairly new plasterboard. Hairline cracks at joints and corners can appear as a new house dries out, so we rake, fill and sand them before painting. Older homes, roughly one in eight built before 1919, may need lining paper where plaster is patched.
Our guide to preparing for a decorator covers what to clear before we arrive.

How we approach interior decorating
In a Littleport house we cover floors and furniture, fill settlement cracks, and sand with Mirka dust-free sanders. New plaster gets a mist coat; bare timber gets a Zinsser primer. Walls usually go in two coats of emulsion and woodwork in gloss, satin or eggshell. Tester pots go up in several places before you commit to a colour. The full method, products and FAQs are on our interior decorating page.
