Finding a floor worth sanding
Terraces, about 17% of Littleport's homes, and older semis are the usual candidates. Lift a corner of carpet in an upstairs room and see what's there. Solid hardwood can be sanded too.
Engineered boards are different: their wood layer is thin and can only be sanded a limited number of times, if at all. Laminate can't be sanded. With so many Littleport homes built since 2000, Chris checks what you have before anything is quoted.
A finished floor near Ely
One of our favourite floor jobs was in Haddenham, near Ely, where Chris restored a dining room and living room floor after we had decorated part of the house in Farrow & Ball. He finished it in Osmo Polyx tint oil in Gold, which has flecks of 24-carat gold. See the Haddenham floor restoration.
Oiled floors are simple to care for: sweep regularly, put felt pads under chairs and wipe up spills.

How we approach floor sanding
Loose boards are secured and nails punched below the surface. Chris sands with a belt sander and edging sander from coarse to fine grades, fills gaps with sawdust from the same floor mixed with Induro Morrells Mix & Fill, and finishes with a Mirka dust-free sander. Osmo oil goes on in thin coats, dried between each. The full method, products and FAQs are on our floor sanding page.
