Lining older Ramsey walls before papering
Council Tax records put about 570 homes in the town before 1919 and another 410 between the wars. Plaster in houses like these is often patched, cracked or slightly bowed, and a finish paper shows every flaw. Lining paper evens out the surface and gives the paper a consistent base.
If stripping old paper reveals loose plaster, our plasterers can skim it before hanging. We explain the extra work and agree the cost first.
Listed interiors and newer homes
Ramsey has 60 listed buildings. In a listed home, ask the council before removing any historic paper. We have protected an existing William Morris paper while other work went on in a Cambridge stairwell.
Newer homes are a different job. With at least a quarter of the stock built since 2000, many walls are smooth plasterboard ready for a feature wall. Simon, our wallpaper specialist, can hang anything from a single wall to a whole house.

How we approach wallpapering
We strip, wash off old paste and fill. Older walls are lined and given time to dry. Before cutting, we check batch numbers, plan where the pattern sits and set out the repeat from the wall you see first. Each drop is hung to a plumb line rather than to the corner. The full method, products and FAQs are on our wallpapering page.
