Original floorboards in Ramsey
Council Tax records list 400 homes built before 1900, 170 from 1900 to 1918 and about 410 between the wars, roughly a fifth of the town. Those are the floors most worth checking. Lift a corner of carpet in a bedroom and see what is underneath.
Terraces make up about 11% of Ramsey homes. In older terraced houses the boards often carry patches from old plumbing or wiring; most blend in once sanded and oiled.
Newer floors and honest advice
With so much recent building, plenty of Ramsey homes have engineered boards or laminate. Engineered floors may take a light sand if the wear layer allows; laminate cannot be sanded. Chris checks first and will tell you if sanding is not the answer.
The Haddenham floor restoration shows the full process, finished in Osmo Polyx tint oil in Gold.

How we approach floor sanding
Chris starts by fixing any loose boards and punching nails down, so nothing tears the paper. The belt sander does the open floor and the edging sander follows the skirtings. Small gaps between Ramsey's old boards are packed with sawdust from the same floor and Mix & Fill, then the Mirka sander smooths everything before the Osmo goes on. The full method, products and FAQs are on our floor sanding page.
