A Ramsey kitchen worth keeping
About 1,190 households in the town own their home with a mortgage, and another 1,330 own outright. For many of them, repainting sound units costs far less than a new kitchen and avoids weeks without a sink or cooker.
Graham checks the doors at the visit. Painted timber, solid wood and MDF all take paint well with the right primer. If a door finish is unlikely to hold paint, he tells you then, not halfway through.
Spray finish or hand-painted
Flat slab doors and long runs suit our Graco Ultra cordless airless sprayer, which gives an even coat with no brush marks. Shaker doors and small kitchens are often better brushed and rolled, and many jobs use both.
Cupboard doors need a proper woodwork paint, eggshell or satin, from makers such as Tikkurila, Dulux or Farrow & Ball. Wooden worktops can be oiled with Osmo, as we did at the Old Telephone Exchange in Fulbourn.

How we approach kitchen cabinet painting
Handles are removed and doors labelled. Every surface is degreased, with most care around the hob and bin, then sanded with Mirka dust-free sanders. Chips are filled, and a Zinsser primer suited to the old finish goes on before the top coats. Worktops, floors and appliances are masked throughout. The full method, products and FAQs are on our kitchen cabinet painting page.
