Period sashes in Ramsey
One Ramsey home in eight predates 1919, according to Council Tax records, roughly 570 properties. Houses of that age are the likeliest to still have sash and case windows.
Our work is decorative: scraping back to a sound edge, filling cracks and open joints, priming bare timber, then eggshell or satin. A neat paint line just onto the glass seals the putty against rain.
Repairs, colour and consent
Broken cords, soft timber and loose sashes need our carpenter, and we plan that joinery alongside the painting so the job runs as one. For listed buildings and houses in the conservation area, ask Huntingdonshire District Council before changing window colour.
Many owners combine windows with the rest of the outside. Our Ramsey exterior painting page covers walls and woodwork.

How we approach sash window restoration
Graham lists each window and its condition separately. We sand with Mirka dust-free sanders, important where old layers may contain lead, prime with Zinsser and lightly sand between coats. Sills and bottom rails are sealed carefully. Every sash is eased before we leave so none sets shut overnight. The full method, products and FAQs are on our sash window restoration page.
