Lath and plaster in older Ramsey homes
Old plaster is often held together by layers of paper. Once those come off, cracks, loose patches and hollow areas show. We will show you what we find, explain the options and agree the cost before Lewis, our plasterer, starts.
Not every old wall needs skimming. Sometimes careful filling and lining paper is enough. Part of Graham's job at the visit is deciding which, so you do not pay for more plastering than the room needs.
Artex and cracked ceilings
Around 1,250 Ramsey homes date from 1945 to 1982, when textured ceilings were popular. Skimming over Artex is usually quicker and far less disruptive than removing the ceiling. Our Artex case study shows a finished job.
Hairline cracks can be filled; deeper or recurring ones may point to movement or a leak, and we will tell you if so. Water stains get a Zinsser stain block. Coving can be hung once the ceiling is done.

How we approach plastering
Floors and furniture are covered before plastering. Once the skim has dried out, we sand off nibs with Mirka dust-free sanders, apply a mist coat to seal it and reveal dips, fill and spot-sand, then apply two finish coats. Plaster and paint sit on one written quotation. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
