Plastering Chatteris ceilings and walls
Lewis, our plasterer, and the master plasterer we work with skim over the texture rather than taking ceilings down. We protect floors and furniture, take down light fittings and prepare the surface so the new plaster bonds. Our Artex skimming case study shows the result.
Then there are the 760 or so pre-1919 homes. Stripping old paper there can reveal lath and plaster in poor condition, as it did in a Cambridge bedroom we skimmed before decorating. In other older houses, filling and lining paper is enough, and Graham decides which at the survey.
Cracks, coving and one quotation
Cracks range from hairlines we fill to deeper splits that need plaster. One that keeps returning can mean movement or a leak, and we'll say so. New coving goes up after the plastering and before the final coats.
Plastering and decorating sit in one written quotation, with Belinda coordinating both. More on our plastering page.

How we approach plastering
Fresh plaster is left to dry fully before decorating. We sand away nibs with Mirka dust-free sanders, apply a thinned mist coat to seal the surface and show any dips, then fill and spot-sand before two full coats. Where a ceiling carries an old water mark, a coat of Zinsser stain block goes on before the emulsion so it stays hidden. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
