Floor sanding in Chatteris period homes
Victorian and Edwardian floors make up the larger share, with about 760 properties before 1919, and a further 340 date from between the wars. Lifting a corner of carpet is the easiest way to see what you have. Chris, our wooden floor specialist, checks the boards before quoting and will tell you honestly if they aren't suitable.
Terraced homes made up 21% of the town at the Census. Their front rooms and narrow halls are typical candidates, and we agree where furniture goes while each room is out of use.
From bare boards to an oiled finish
In Haddenham, near Ely, Chris belt-sanded and edge-sanded two rooms of boards, filled the gaps with sawdust mixed with Induro Morrells Mix & Fill, and finished them in Osmo Polyx tint oil in Gold. Photos are on the Haddenham floor restoration page.
Clear Osmo oil keeps the colour of freshly sanded pine, and worn patches can be re-oiled later without sanding the whole room. Read more about floor sanding.

How we approach floor sanding
Old pine boards can have proud nails, loose boards and dark stain around the room edges. Chris secures and punches them down, belt-sands through the grades, edges along the skirtings and fills gaps with sawdust and Mix & Fill. He finishes with a Mirka dust-free sander and applies Osmo in thin coats. The full method, products and FAQs are on our floor sanding page.
