Which Willingham homes have floors worth sanding
The best candidates are the older cottages and terraces. Terraced houses make up about 17% of the village in the 2021 Census, and the older ones are the likeliest to have suspended timber floors. Lifting the corner of a carpet is the quickest way to find out.
Newer homes, nearly a third of the village, may have engineered boards or laminate instead. Laminate can't be sanded, and engineered boards only a limited number of times, so Chris checks what you have before quoting.
Floor sanding finishes: gold oil, clear oil and in between
We finish floors in Osmo oils. In Haddenham, near Ely, Chris finished a dining and living room in Osmo Polyx tint oil in Gold, which contains flecks of 24-carat gold. The Haddenham floor restoration shows every stage. A clear oil keeps the boards close to their freshly sanded colour.

How we approach floor sanding
Chris secures loose boards and punches down nails, then sands with a belt sander and an edging sander through coarse to fine grades. Any gaps between boards are packed with Induro Morrells Mix & Fill blended with sawdust from that same floor. A Mirka dust-free sander does the final pass before thin coats of Osmo oil, with drying time between each. The full method, products and FAQs are on our floor sanding page.
