Four elevations to prepare
A detached house catches the weather on every side, and the north-facing wall usually looks worst. Algae and mould grow on shaded render, so we jet wash with an anti-fungal wash before painting, then let the surface dry. Painting over live growth only traps it underneath.
Semi-detached homes, another 26.5% of the village, have one shared wall and three to paint. Graham walks round the whole property first and lists every repair, from cracked render to soft window sills, in the written quotation. Our exterior restoration case study shows what proper cleaning achieves.
House painting in the Willingham conservation area
Willingham has a designated conservation area, and properties inside it may face stricter rules on exterior changes. If you want to paint brick that has never been painted, or switch to a much darker colour, it's sensible to check with South Cambridgeshire District Council first. We can paint test patches on a discreet section so you see the colour in daylight.
Older walls, and around 15% of Willingham's homes date from before 1919, need masonry paint that lets moisture escape rather than trapping it in the brick or render.

How we approach exterior painting
We survey first, then jet wash with an anti-fungal treatment, scrape and sand loose paint, and repair masonry and timber. Bare wood is primed and undercoated. Windows, paths and planting are masked before the finish coats, and we plan the work for drier months, keeping a close eye on the forecast. The full method, products and FAQs are on our exterior painting page.
