Exterior painting for detached homes in Over
The 2021 Census counted 742 detached houses in Over, against just 105 terraced ones. On a detached house the shaded side can carry green algae while the sunny side has faded and chalked, so each face gets treated on its own terms before breathable masonry paint goes on.
Soffits, fascias, gutters and downpipes are usually painted in the same visit, so the roofline is done once on a single run of access.
Older brick and the Over conservation area
Some of Over's older houses show Dutch influence from the Fen drainage, such as the Old Black Horse and Ivy House, with rounded end-walls and angled brick-ties. Old brickwork needs a breathable approach, and Graham will tell you honestly whether bare facing brick should be painted at all.
If your house is in the Over conservation area, check with South Cambridgeshire District Council before a big colour change. We can paint test patches on a discreet wall so you see the colour in daylight. Garden timber can be done alongside; see shed and fence painting in Over.

How we approach exterior painting
We start with an anti-fungal jet wash and let the walls dry thoroughly. Loose paint is scraped back, cracks are filled with exterior filler and bare timber is primed. Masonry gets a breathable finish, while windows, doors and fascias get undercoat and top coat. On a detached Over house we work round one side at a time and keep paths clear. The full method, products and FAQs are on our exterior painting page.
