Fences and sheds around Over's detached houses
With 742 detached homes in the village, a full garden repaint can mean a long run of panels, posts and gravel boards. Posts and gravel boards usually fail first, so they get a proper coat rather than a quick pass.
Sheds are closer to small buildings. Cladding, door, window frames, trims and barge boards all need doing, and the bottom boards sit in rain splashback.
Cleaning, products and timing
Algae and dirt come off first, with an anti-fungal wash where it suits the timber and a gentler clean on rough-sawn panels. Graham then suggests an opaque garden paint for a solid colour, or a stain if you'd like the grain to show.
Late spring to early autumn usually brings the right weather. Our Graco sprayer only comes out on long fences when overspray onto plants, cars and next door can be controlled, and we paint a neighbour's side only with their agreement. If the house needs doing too, see house painting in Over.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
We clean off moss and algae, scrape and sand flaking paint on sheds and gates, sand raised fibres, and protect plants and paving. Gate latches and hinges are masked or removed so every face, including top and bottom end grain, gets coated. Rotten boards or posts are flagged before we start, with repairs through our carpenter. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
