Papering older walls in Over
Council Tax records put roughly 150 Over properties before 1919. Victorian walls have often been patched many times, and stripping old paper can pull loose plaster with it. We hang lining paper on walls like that first, so joins sit flat and the pattern isn't fighting a bumpy surface.
If stripping shows plaster that won't hold, our plasterers can skim it before we hang anything, and any extra cost is agreed with you first.
Feature walls, designer papers and listed homes
Most of Over's housing dates from 1965 onwards, and smoother walls of that age suit feature papers, murals and heavier designer papers well. We check batch numbers, plan where the pattern falls and hang from a plumb line rather than lining up against the previous drop.
For the 37 listed buildings in the parish, check whether a change needs consent before choosing a paper. Simon, our wallpaper specialist, hung a William Morris design through three floors of a Cambridge hall and stairs, described in this staircase case study.

How we approach wallpapering
In an Over Victorian house we strip, wash off old paste, fill and line where needed, then size the wall if the paper calls for it. In a 1970s or later house we can often go straight to filling and sizing. Pattern repeats are planned before the first cut, and every length is checked against a plumb line.
