Interior decorating in Chatteris homes of every age
Council Tax records put about 760 properties before 1919 and around 1,430 from 1983 to 1999. The older ones usually need cracks filled, walls lined in places and woodwork rubbed back through years of gloss. The 1980s and 1990s houses are more often a case of tired paint, dated colours and hairline cracks across the ceilings.
About a third of households owned their home outright in 2021. Graham paints tester pots in several spots so you can see each colour in your own light, and you're welcome to supply good-quality paint yourself.
Landlords and rented rooms
Private renting accounted for 19.1% of Chatteris households. Between tenancies we fill fixing holes, seal water or smoke stains with Zinsser and use washable finishes such as Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion.
For older-house work, our Victorian bedrooms in Histon show lining and a navy ceiling on original plaster. Letting turnarounds are covered on our commercial painting page.

How we approach interior decorating
In pre-1919 Chatteris rooms we fill and line where the plaster is uneven and stain-block any old marks. In later houses we fill cracks, sand with Mirka dust-free sanders and prime bare patches. Ceilings go first, then walls, then woodwork in gloss, satin or eggshell. Floors and furniture are sheeted and the house is tidied daily. The full method, products and FAQs are on our interior decorating page.
