A good fit for Sawston's estates
Council Tax records list 640 homes from 1965 to 1972 and 540 from 1973 to 1982, the two largest build periods in the village. Houses from these decades often had their original windows replaced with white uPVC, and those frames are now the most likely to look tired.
Respraying changes the colour without taking anything out. With only about 6.5% of homes in flats, most owners can make that decision themselves.
Conservation area and listed homes
Sawston has one conservation area and 45 listed buildings. If you live in that area, check with the council before changing frame colour, as some alterations to the front of a house may need consent.
Spraying is outdoor work, so it depends on dry, mild weather. Spring to early autumn is the best time. If you are repainting the walls at the same time, our Sawston exterior painting page explains how that side works.

How we approach upvc spraying
Frames are washed and degreased to remove the film that builds up on plastic, then lightly abraded so the coating can grip. Glass, seals, handles and brickwork are masked. We spray thin coats of a coating made for uPVC, leaving drying time between them. The full method, products and FAQs are on our upvc spraying page.
