Original white frames on 1980s and 1990s houses
That's around 590 homes, more than half of them dated 1993 to 1999. After a few decades outdoors, white uPVC tends to go chalky or yellow, and it can look out of step with a freshly painted front door or a new porch.
About 90% of Papworth homes are houses rather than flats, so most owners can decide on a colour themselves. If you live in a flat, the frames may belong to the freeholder, so check before booking.
uPVC spraying, timing and the conservation area
Frames are cleaned, degreased and keyed, then glass, seals and handles are masked off and the frames are sprayed on site in coatings made for uPVC. The work depends on dry, mild weather, so it's best planned for spring to early autumn.
The village has a conservation area. If your house is in it, check with South Cambridgeshire District Council before changing frame colour. Outside it, greys, greens and off-blacks are common choices, and the uPVC spraying page has more.

How we approach upvc spraying
Graham looks at each frame at the visit and leaves out any with cracked profiles or failed seals. On the day we wash and degrease, key the plastic by hand, and mask glass, rubbers, handles and sills. Coats are sprayed thin with drying time between them, and doors and conservatory frames can be done in the same colour as the windows. The full method, products and FAQs are on our upvc spraying page.
