Where tired white frames turn up in Girton
Most of that group is from 1965 to 1982, with a smaller run of about 150 from the 1980s and 1990s. Windows on the older houses have often been changed once already, and the white uPVC that went in then is now the part of the house that looks oldest. The same goes for 1930s and postwar semis that swapped timber for plastic.
Because nearly nine in ten Girton homes are houses rather than flats, owners can usually decide on their own frames without a freeholder or managing agent to consult. That makes a colour change much simpler.
How uPVC spraying works on a Girton house
Frames are washed and degreased, then keyed so the coating can bond. Masking then goes over the glass, rubber seals, handles, surrounding brick and sills. We spray on site in coatings made for uPVC, and the work needs dry, mild weather, so it's best booked from spring to early autumn.
With no conservation area in Historic England's records for Girton, a frame colour change is usually a personal choice, though listed homes should ask the council first. If the walls are being repainted too, our house painting service lets you choose frames and masonry together, and the uPVC spraying page has more detail.

How we approach upvc spraying
For a typical Girton semi, Graham looks at every frame at the visit, notes any with failed seals or cracks, and leaves those out of the quote. The rest are cleaned, degreased and keyed, then everything around them is masked. Spraying is planned for a settled dry spell, and you can have one elevation done first if you'd like to see the colour before committing. The full method, products and FAQs are on our upvc spraying page.
