Preparing garden timber properly
Paint and stain need clean, dry wood. We remove moss, algae and dirt, using an anti-fungal wash where it suits the timber and a gentler method on soft fence panels. Flaking paint on sheds and gates is scraped and sanded, and loose fibres are rubbed down. Any rotten boards or posts are flagged before we start.
Our carpenter or master builder can repair a rotten shed floor or post before the painting goes ahead.
Shed and fence painting in Mildenhall
A solid-colour garden paint evens out boards that have greyed at different rates. Wood stains let the grain show and are easier to recoat. Graham recommends products at the visit and can paint test patches so you can see them in changing light. Gate edges get full coverage, because bare end grain soaks up water.
For landlords, tidying a garden's fences before a new let helps a property present well. There is more on products and timing on our garden timber painting page.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
Garden timber is cleaned with an anti-fungal wash and left to dry. Shed cladding and gates are rubbed back where paint has flaked, ironmongery is taped, and the posts and base boards that rot first are coated generously. Where a fence borders parked cars or prized planting, we brush it; open runs with nothing nearby can be sprayed. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
