Lining paper for Mildenhall's older walls
Walls in pre-1900 houses are often uneven, patched or crazed with fine cracks. Lining paper gives the finish paper a smooth, even base, and where stripping old layers pulls plaster away, our plasterers can skim it before we carry on. In the conservation area and on listed properties, we take extra care with surviving historic surfaces.
If you are planning paper in a period home, Graham will look at the walls during his visit and say whether lining will help.
Wallpaper hanging in Mildenhall's 1970s and later homes
In the town's many later homes, a feature wall behind a bed or across a chimney breast is the most common request. Expensive designer and heritage rolls go to Simon, who checks batch numbers and plans the joins before the first cut. Murals and photo papers are laid out and checked before any paste goes on.
Our wallpapering page covers stairwells, and Mrs Lee in March told us John's photo wallpaper looked really stunning.

How we approach wallpapering
We strip existing paper, wash off paste and look at the plaster underneath. Older Mildenhall walls get filling and a layer of lining paper, hung at right angles to the finish paper. Later walls are sized to the manufacturer's instructions. We plan where the pattern lands on the focal wall first and check every length against a plumb bob rather than its neighbour. The full method, products and FAQs are on our wallpapering page.
