Sash windows and Northstowe's housing
Around 95% of Northstowe's homes date from 2000 onwards, and new homes are rarely built with traditional timber sash and case windows. The handful of older properties counted in the parish might, and so might homes in older villages nearby, such as Willingham.
If you own one of those, the work matters. Once paint cracks, rain gets into the joints and bottom rails, and decay speeds up.
What our sash work involves
Our part is decorative: scraping, dust-free sanding, filling open joints and cracks, priming bare timber and finishing in eggshell or satin. Older paint can contain lead, so we keep dust down throughout.
Where a window needs new timber, cords or a replacement sash, our carpenter does that before we decorate, so you still deal with one company. Our main sash window restoration page explains what Graham checks before quoting.

How we approach sash window restoration
Each window is assessed and priced on its own. Flaking paint is scraped back to a sound edge and sanded with Mirka dust-free sanders, joints are filled and bare wood is primed with Zinsser. We work the sashes up and down so every face is painted, keep the running surfaces clear and seal the putty with a fine line onto the glass. The full method, products and FAQs are on our sash window restoration page.
